Three common ailments that attack us where we live

We are profoundly affected by the places we spend the most time – our homes and our workplaces. When our surroundings are orderly and attractive we can relax. When they’re a mess, we feel like our lives are out of control.

Is your home suffering from one of these ailments?

1. TMS – Too Much Stuff. Where did it all come from? Is it breeding in the closet at night? Was there a litter-bomb while you were at work? TMS makes it hard to focus on what’s truly important. TMS keeps us stuck in the past instead of being in the present and looking to the future. TMS is just plain ugly.

2. SSC – Stale Stuck Ch’i. Once a piece of furniture, stack of papers, or your collection of nested Russian dolls gets put in place, it stays glued to the spot. Ch’i gets stuck too. Did you know that in Italian, French, German, Dutch, Danish etc the word for furniture is some form of “mobile” – meaning “it moves.”  Times change, we change, our needs change – your furnishings should be moved and refreshed too.

3. FOC – Fear of Color. Otherwise known as BBB – the Boring Beige Blahs.  Too many people are afraid to leave the beige/white safety zone. They may have tried it once and got scared off: that yellow that looked so cheery on the paint chip turns out to have an garish sickly glow on the wall. When chosen correctly, color has powerful healing and mood-enhancing properties. It balances and enlivens the elemental energy of a space.

What is the RX? If you’re suffering from TMS, SSC, or FOC and live in the Portland/Vancouver metro area, give me a call, Joy Overstreet, at 360-314-2467 to see if a Joyful Spaces consultation would help.
