Instant art in situ – the Urban Curators Project

A group of art students at the Rhode Island School of Design picked up a bunch of picture frames at Goodwill etc, gilded them with spray paint, then carried them around Providence to see what vignettes they could frame.

It was a lesson for me in fresh-eyed seeing. And in the importance of creating boundaries. Right now I’m looking out my window at a knotty pine fence on which the a nearby tree is casting lacy shadows. Properly framed it would make a lovely abstract.

Try it – get an empty frame and hold it up around the house… what can you see? Could you create some intriguing little vignettes?

And if you’re casting about for an art experience this weekend, don’t forget Art in the Pearl.
