Front door no-no: the surprise drop


A number of older homes in my neighborhood are cursed with a dropped front stoop. This is a sprained ankle waiting to happen. Feng shui doesn’t like sprained ankles. Feng shui doesn’t like unpleasant surprises.

Feng shui likes people to feel safe, comfortable. Feng shui especially likes the front door (the very important “mouth of chi”) to be welcoming – and unsafe is not welcoming.

Feng shui RX: redo the front steps so there’s a healthy space to stand outside that’s on the same level as inside. If there’s a screen door a person needs to be able to swing it open without having to back down a step…

Here’s another one. Doors like this look like they belong in a treehouse…
